Synopsis
When he was young Shirou had lost his parents in a large and unexplained fire. He was rescued and later adopted by a man named Kiritsugu Emiya who had revealed to Shirou that he was a magus, a person capable of using magic. Through their conversation, Shirou learns of his foster father's failed life ambition to become a "Hero of Justice" a guardian of mankind who could protect the weak and innocent. Touched by Kiritsugu's conviction, Shirou affirms to his foster father that he intends to devote his life to achieving that distant ideal. To do this, Shirou pleads with a begrudging Kiritsugu to teach him magecraft but Shirou proves to be talentless in almost all the fundamental magecraft disciplines.

One day however, he witnesses a conflict between two unbelievably powerful beings and inadvertently summons one of his own in order to protect himself. He then finds out that this conflict, known as the 'Holy Grail War', involves a series of battles among seven powerful magi. Magi who can summon "Servants", Heroic Spirits from throughout time, to fight for the possession of a relic that will grant one's wishes, the Holy Grail.

This story revolves around Shirou and his entanglement in the Holy Grail War along with his own personal battle to uphold his ideal.

Review
"Well my friend introduced this anime to me one summer, and i fell in love with it ever since."
Yeah this is true. This story is about an average guy named Shiro who gets dragged into something supernatural and gains the power to save the world, or ruin it. Yes this kind of idea has been used over and over again, but aside from this mediocre idea, there was something that really attracted me. How they incorporated famous heroes and villains into their story intrigued me. The action sequences were amazing despite seeing the sometimes really annoying protagonist getting his daily dose of ass beating, i enjoyed every battle. The story has alot (and i mean ALOT) of potential, but the 24 episodes cannot fulfill the potential. After watching the anime, i felt that the story was lacking and it was, the anime was based on a Visual Novel and there are many versions of the story line giving very detailed information on the world of Fate. Despite the 24 episodes, i am also glad that they didn't make more episodes, thus having fillers and dragged on events.
I give this anime a 9/10 (even though im a nerd for this anime?!??! surprising ain't it?)

Before I start:

Voidbringer: "TOHSAKA RIN FTW"

Summary: Ah the most popular visual novel ever created in Japan. The PC game was an arguable "eroge" anime. Soon, Type-Moon developed a non-hentai version of Fate Stay Night, Realtu Nu for the PS2, with voice and a new ending. Because this is only the anime section, I will judge the anime =)

Graphics: 7.9/10

-The graphics seem pretty good for the year it was first released (2006), and the visuals have improved when you compare it to the visual novel. The fight scenes are awesome and especially when Fate goes into its scary aspects of the war O_O

Story: 5/10

- Because the visual novel has so many endings, I think Fate Stay Night would had been a lot better if it hadn't went to the Fate arc. Yes, I know Fate was the most favorite but the story's hella slow on the Fate arc. Yet, because they stuck to the Fate arc, this anime wouldn't been an adult-advisory one, if they chose Heaven's Feel *shivers*

Audio: 8/10

- The voices correspond to the characters in my opinion. The music is goooood. And none of the sounds make you think it sounds fake.

Popularity: 9/10

- Everyone knows Fate Stay Night =)...and every anime needs a strong base of members to be a good anime =D

Good Finish: 5/10

- Every Type-Moon ending is sad. No doubt about it. Leaves many romanticized people heartbroken. This rating is a compromise for them

Final Impression: 8/10

- I'm still a fan of it. Still have the hentai game on my computer haha.

Average Score: 71.5%

Characters
Shiro Emiya

Shiro is the main character of the story. He is a serious yet helpful, hardworking, and honest teenager. His hobbies include fixing a variety of broken things, from VCRs to stoves, as well as cooking and cleaning. He has some slight talent with sorcery, though he was discouraged by his foster father Kiritsugu Emiya from improving his gifts. He is initially confused about the Holy Grail War and attempts to irrationally shield others from danger, including his own Servant, Saber.

Saber

She is Shiro's Servant, an agile but powerful warrior. Loyal, independent, and reserved, Saber acts coldly but is actually suppressing her emotions to focus on her goals. Her class is considered the "Most Outstanding", with excellent ratings in all categories. Since her Master cannot effectively provide her with Mana, she minimizes her activity to preserve what she has. Saber is frustrated by Shiro's "protective" tendencies, believing his erratic and reckless behavior will jeopardize her chances of winning the Holy Grail War.
Tohsaka Rin: A model student and idol of Shiro's school who is secretly a sorceress and Master in the Holy Grail War. She is a descendant from a long line of sorcerers, and though she lacks a formal magic education, she is extremely powerful in her own right. Her father was killed in the fourth Holy Grail War, and she has trained since his death to succeed him. She is perceptive, resourceful and avidly competitive. She tried to summon a Saber-class Servant, but she accidentally called Archer instead.

Her father was killed in the fourth Holy Grail War, and she has trained since his death to succeed him. She is perceptive, resourceful and avidly competitive. She tried to summon a Saber-class Servant, but she accidentally called Archer instead.

Archer

He is the Servant of one of the series' main heroines, Rin Tosaka. Due to an incomplete summon, he apparently has no memory of his previous life or identity. Archer is sarcastic and cynical - but under his hardened exterior lies a complex and dark personality that unfolds throughout the story. Though skilled with ranged weapons, he can hold his own in mêlée combat. Archer considers Shiro Emiya's idealism to be weak and delusional, recognizing Shiro's mentality of "wanting to save everyone" as naïve and impossible.

Illyasviel von Einzbern

A young Teutonic aristocrat, she traveled to Japan to participate in the Holy Grail War as a Master. Illyasviel has an angelic appearance and an unsurpassed degree of magical power. She lives in a castle on the outskirts of Fuyuki City, accompanied only by her Servant and two maids. Illyasviel asks those she feels comfortable around to simply call her "Ilya". Ilya's father is Kiritsugu Emiya.
